* Wash the fabric separately to avoid stain because some threads may cause color bleeding.
* Do not use harsh chemicals so as not to create damage on cloth and thread. Avoid those with fragrance and cloth softeners.
* In the presence of stain, soak it in warm water with liquid soap for at least 15 minutes. If needed, stain can be brushed using a toothbrush with soft bristles.
* Rinse thoroughly using cold water. Make sure that there are no suds left on the cloth.
* Allow it to dry by rolling it between two white towels, so that excess water will be absorbed.
* Iron-press the damp fabric under a clean, dry towel.
* When needle craft contains add-ons such as beads, a little mending will do right after washing.
Needlepoint canvass
In contrast with cross stitch, needlepoint canvas should be dry cleaned. Dry cleaning uses solvent as well as water; however, the amount of water may vary from little to none at all. The most common solvent used is the Perchlorethylene, which is the most effective and suitable for almost all types of cloth such as cotton, linen, wool, and more. Although safe on fabrics, it is proven to be toxic when large amount is introduced into the air. With the help of the professional dry cleaners who are trained in handling delicate cloths as well as removing stubborn stains, dry cleaning would still be the recommended method of treating stains on canvasses.
